National Unity Above Partisanship – Yeah Right

I want to direct your attention to a blog entry by Doug Geivett, found here. I always enjoy Dr. Geivett, and that didn’t change here. He brought up a point that has troubled me for quite a while. If I had to break it down into one sentence it’s this, “Why not show your birth certificate, Mr. President?”

As Geivett points out, the term “birther” has become basically a verbal bludgeon meant to shut down conversation. (Not like this is unique… how rare is it to see a mature discussion that isn’t shut down with name-calling as substitution for argument?) I don’t read most of the partisan political websites (but politics does spill over often onto the sites I do read, as well as into the comments on news stories, though). I also don’t have television, and rarely listen to talk radio. This is by design and wasn’t always this way. Hence, I am always a few minutes behind on things of this sort. Continue Reading…

Chance of a Lifetime

Melinda from Stand to Reason posted some thoughts on the election results that I found particularly descriptive of my own thoughts.

Many have commented that they never thought they’d see a black man elected president in their lifetime.  I truly did.  Not necessarily this time, but some time soon.  It never occurred to me we wouldn’t because I believe this is a fair and good country that tries to live up to its principles.  We’ll elect all kinds of firsts because that’s who we are.
What I believe now is that in my lifetime I’ll never see the Constitutional rights of the unborn protected by our Supreme Court.  Not now that we’ve elected the most radical pro-abortion president in our history the Supreme Court is likely to be lost for 20-30 years.  We will get there because, as I said, we do eventually live up to our principles.  We’ll work for changing minds and hearts, and changing the law incrementally and state by state.  But I don’t think I’ll see our Constitution applies to all human persons in my lifetime. -link-

You can take economics and almost every other issue and put them in the backseat. I’d rather see my country fall apart through virtuous actions than prosper from wickedness. Econocide is better than infanticide.

Obama’s Abortion Extremism

Robert George has written an excellent analysis of Senator Obama’s stance on abortion and the value of the unborn. Very valuable read.
